Don’t panic when you read the word “customizations” - it is not as dirty of a word in the Epicor ERP world as it might be elsewhere.
Epicor ERP gives us a fantastic tool called Embedded Customizations which effectively takes the base version of a form (let’s say Sales Order Entry) and applies a series of “changes” in the form of UI tweaks and supplemental code. The beauty of this setup is that you can typically apply upgrades to Epicor and these “changes” upgrade automatically.
So what can you do with this tool? In the simplest use, you can pair down the screens you use to just the fields you want, labeled exactly how you want (including custom fields you may have added).
In more elaborate use cases you might entirely change the behavior of a given module. For example, we have done modifications to MES in the past to make it ENTIRELY barcode driven - employees scan their badge to clock in, scan a barcode on a traveler to start working, and don’t touch the mouse at all.
